Indian Judiciary System - An old one

This blog from me comes in the heels of the judgements passed by our courts in some high profile cases, the Bombay blast case and Daboo case and many other high profiles one too.

People are happy (generally) with the verdict. But at what cost has this come about. The bombay blast case verdict has taken 13 yrs in coming and the Daboo case about 8 yrs. And another point of note is that these have been passed only in the lower courts, so many convicted persons have the chance to appeal again in higher courts. The general consensus is that if you are convicted in lower courts appeal in higher courts, the case shall come up only after another 10 yrs or so, if it isnt that important, so you can scout free until that time. This has lead to a backlog of about 27,000 cases (at around 2004) in the Supreme court. I dont have an idea about the backlog scenario presently.

So, I would like to ask is in general the Indian Judicial System creaking slowly. The system is an old one. Does it need to be replaced or atleast modified. Will the people have the courage to change the system?

Everywhere and everything change is inevitable, but the sooner the better...

Well its just not about getting a new system implemented. I feel more imp issues such as lawyers supporting the accused in case of Ram Jethlamani in Jessica lal case wherein its so well known that manu is the accused and yet countries top shot lawyer is favouring the accused and most important is manipulating the case.
2nd imp point is regarding safety of witness who are harrased and thereby change there statement as in bakery murder case during godhra riots.
I think that there should be seprate courts that handle different cases(Murder,Terrorism, White collar crime etc) as a result this will ensure better and faster handling of cases.
As a result this will avoid cases being taken to higher courts
